Alright, I really am showing off, but I'm just so thrilled with my (asked for) birthday present from Mum and Dad which mixed these beautiful scones today.
It's the Breville equivalent of a mixmaster. Before I got it out of its box, my little boy pointed at it and said, "What is it a?"
I said, "It's a mixmaster."
He said, "No, it's a Whizz Power Mixer!" He was right. And, yes, he can read more than I thought he could.
Anyway, by some cosmic accident on the very day I wanted to test out my new Whizz Power Mixer, I happened to have in the fridge both lemonade and cream - the secret ingredients for perfect scones.
Try this: in a Breville Whizz Power Mixer with dough hooks, mix together on a low speed 1 cup lemonade, 1 cup cream, 1 egg and 3 cups SR flour. Roll out, cut out and bake in a hot oven (200C) for 20 minutes or until golden on top.
As for once in my life I didn't burn what I put into the oven, I gave some to the neighbours and their assessment was 'delicious'.

I might just have to try that recipe, sounds and looks yummy!
Well, done! I've never managed to make good scones. I made a horrible mistake with my Breville mixer, which I would recommend not repeating. After getting it as a birthday present, the first thing I attempted to make with it was gingerbread people, which promptly burnt out the motor. A very expensive mistake!!!
I've only ever tried to make scones once, and they were appalling. My mother makes beautiful ones, but I think I expected to be able to make ones just like hers, without the blood sweat and tears of years of practise. Perhaps I shall try your recipe - it seems quite simple. Though I have to admit I am partial to non-sweet scones (Mum's don't have any sugar in them).
scones are a handed down skill in my family - let me just say the secret in our family is lots of butter! I always think cream of tartar adds something too. I've tried lemonade and that was good too.
These are not particularly sweet Prue - don't know why with all that lemonade in them - but it doesn't seem to affect them much.
